It is only the rather arbitrary date of March 1 that tells us the meteorological beginning of spring but at least we can look forward to start into the most beautiful season exactly one month from now. Then it will soon look as beautiful as on this photo.
What is framed by flowers there is the Heinrich Zille sculpture in Poststraße. The one-and-a-half ton limestone sculpture is a tribute to the Milljöh draftsman Zille (1858 – 1929), and if you want to learn more about the great Zille, you can visit the Zille Museum, which reopened a few weeks ago on Propststraße.
Whenever we were happy about the first spring-like days, the first visitors were already sitting outside in the sun on the Nikolaikirchplatz. By the way: with 30 cafés and restaurants, the Nikolaiviertel has the highest density of restaurants in Berlin and that’s why spring in Berlin can be enjoyed especially well here. Everywhere there are beautiful spots to sit outside – dreamily on the Kirchplatz, watching ships on the banks of the Spree or with a view of the Red City Hall and the TV Tower in the Rathausstraße. Whether it’s a hearty meal with brewery beer or vegetarian and even vegan delicacies with a sparkling wine spritzer – you can enjoy it here in many places and without street noise.
