In the Nikolaiviertel, many cozy shops invite you to stroll and browse. The Kunsthaus am Rotes Rathaus fits harmoniously into this environment. It shows pictures by historical and contemporary artists on three floors.

In 2001, Jörg Schröder took over the Kunsthaus am Rotes Rathaus, which had existed since reunification. His main motive was the excellent location. “The Nikolaiviertel is a beautiful, quiet enclave in hectic Berlin-Mitte,” says the native Berliner, who previously worked as a framer in a picture glazing workshop. “This ambience benefits art.”

Jörg Schröder has expanded the Kunsthaus am Rotes Rathaus over the years, both in terms of content and space. Classics by Max Liebermann, Heinrich Zille and Arno Mohr are on the walls; but also more recent works by Udo Lindenberg, Armin Mueller-Stahl and Frank Zander.

Art dealer Jörg Schröder has a wide range of moldings and passe-partouts. He also offers all services that have to do with pictures and frames: On request, with expert advice, he will produce the picture frame of your choice. Restorations and gilding are also part of his offer.

Exhibition openings regularly take place in the Kunsthaus am Rotes Rathaus in the presence of the artists – a convivial meeting place for art lovers, local residents and tourists. The popular singer Frank Zander, who is also talented in painting, has presented his imaginative pictures here several times in person.

In any case, the clientele of Kunsthaus am Rotes Rathaus is not elitist. “Affordable art for everyone” is the motto of Jörg Schröder, who also took over the Klöppelstube next door in the summer of 2016. Berlin’s only shop for bobbin lace accessories regularly organizes courses in knitting, crocheting and bobbin lace-making, aimed at beginners and advanced learners.

The range of needles and threads, which can also be bought in the online shop, is supplemented by original wood handicrafts from the Erzgebirge. The owner is a member of the Association of Erzgebirge Art Dealers and Toy Manufacturers. As such, he has access to exclusive products.

Jörg Schröder runs the Kunsthaus am Rotes Rathaus and Klöppelstube with passion. With his shops he wants to contribute to the beautiful flair of the Nikolaiviertel for a long time to come.
