Stadtmuseum Berlin is now the Berlin Museum – and it has plenty to offer this summer! Here are our tips for summer school holidays!

In the middle of summer school break, the Stadtmuseum Berlin is surprising visitors with a new name and a new look. “Berlin Museum” is the new brand name under which, effective immediately, three venues in the Nikolaiviertel will operate: the Ephraim-Palais, the Knoblauchhaus, and the Nikolaikirche. Also part of the group are the Düppel Museum Village in Steglitz-Zehlendorf, BERLIN GLOBAL at the Humboldt Forum, and the Jeanne Mammen Studio on Kurfürstendamm. Another new feature is the website www.berlin.museum, which takes on a different look with every visit.

Throughout the year, there’s a huge selection of activities for families and children of all ages. But right now, during summer vacation, it’s especially worth checking out the calendar of events—particularly for those spending their vacation at home in Berlin or who have already returned from their trips.

Here are just a few tips for families with children in the Nikolaiviertel:

  • From August 11 to 14, the Ephraim-Palais Museum is offering a 4-day workshop where kids ages 9 to 12 can use various techniques to create their own cityscapes.
  • Thanks to “Elternzeit Kultur,” parents and grandparents can also relax and explore the BerlinZEIT exhibition with their baby—for example, on August 20—and they even provide toys and a changing table.
  • The „Schreibwerkstatt“ or “Writing Workshop” even offers a free creative activity to discover just how exciting writing can be using both historical and modern tools—from quill and ink to graphite pencils.
  • As on every first Sunday of the month, there will also be a wide-ranging family program on August 2 at the Ephraim Palace, the Knoblauchhaus, and St. Nicholas Church—with free admission for everyone under 18.
  • On August 9 and 23, there will be family tours titled “Legends and Myths from the Nikolaiviertel”—an exploratory tour where you’ll learn, among other things, how the bear came to be featured on Berlin’s coat of arms.

And of course, we’re looking forward to the NikolaiZauber on August 15 and 16, the street performance festival featuring artists, jugglers, magicians, walk acts, clowns, and music throughout the Nikolaiviertel. That weekend, the Berlin Museum is offering a “Special Combo Ticket” for 9 euros, which allows you to explore all three museums, and children get free admission.
